Now live: a Hermès Constance 18 in black Epsom with a blue enamel “H” clasp framed in palladium. The Constance is the most disciplined design Hermès makes, a clean flap bag defined entirely by its clasp, and swapping the usual metal H for enamel turns a classic into something quietly rare. Wear it on the shoulder or crossbody.
Introduced in 1959, the Constance strips a bag down to its essentials: a rectangular body, a single flap and the sculptural H that gives it its identity. That restraint is why it has lasted more than sixty years without needing reinvention, and why the 18 has become the size collectors reach for most often.
Because the clasp is the whole design, any change to it changes the bag. Most Constances wear a metal H in gold or palladium. An enamel H is far less common, and in blue against black Epsom it reads as understated from across a room and unmistakable up close.
Epsom suits the design. Its pressed grain holds the Constance’s sharp lines, resists scratches and keeps the bag light enough for all-day crossbody wear.
Black Epsom with palladium hardware and the blue enamel H plaque, two interior compartments with a slip pocket, and an adjustable strap that runs long across the body or short on the shoulder.
