Now live: an early Rolex GMT-Master ref. 1675 with pointed crown guards and a glossy gilt dial signed “Officially Certified Chronometer.” This is the first generation of the reference that defined Rolex’s travel watch for two decades, in the configuration collectors value most: gilt, pointed guards, OCC text and a red and blue Pepsi bezel.
The 1675 replaced the original 6542 around 1959 and stayed in production into the 1980s, making it one of the longest-running sport references Rolex ever built. Over that time it changed in small but important ways, and collectors read those details closely.
The earliest 1675s are the most sought after. They had pointed crown guards, later softened to rounded ones, and glossy gilt dials with gold printing, before matte dials with white text arrived in the mid 1960s. The gilt OCC dial and Mercedes hands have aged with a warm, even patina. It wears the pointed crown guard case, a red and blue aluminum Pepsi insert, an acrylic crystal and a period-correct riveted Oyster bracelet.
